Assistant Curator of History and Exhibitions
The Town of Silver City is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Curator of History and Exhibitions.

Responsibilities include: interpreting the Museumís collection of historical photographs and artifacts.
Requirements are: NM Class D driverís license with acceptable driving record, or ability to obtain within 30 days; Masterís Degree in History, American Studies, Museum Studies, or closely related field. Substantial record of scholarships and/or publications may be considered without degree conferral; 2 years working in a museum or similar; some experience working on exhibitions and/or with collections. Prefer: experience and knowledge in artifact handling, photographs, textiles and a wide range of historical and archaeological materials; experience with PastPerfect, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat and Bridge softwares; significant experience with other museum database programs. Familiar with best practices in the field and able to proactively keep up with innovations; strong interpersonal, organizational, writing, proofreading and analytical skills, with meticulous attention to detail; ability to work alone and to work as part of a team with the Museum Director, Registrar and Collections Manager, Museum Educator, Volunteer Coordinator and volunteers; ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment; familiarity with southwest American history; knowledgeable and passionate about local southwest New Mexico history and material culture; able to demonstrate strong interest in utilizing artifacts to tell stories and dedication to inclusion of all cultures and eras; familiarity with approaches to local history and able to adhere to rigorous standards of scholarship. Prefer: ability to layout labels in design software; do some hands-on preparation such as mounting labels; knowledge of historic preservation; and Spanish language ability. Must be able to pass drug & alcohol tests.
