Fire Department: Public Education

The Silver City Fire Department services the public and the community by not only running emergencies but also by educating the public in fire safety.

The department takes an active approach to preventing fires and accidents before they occur through fire and accident prevention. These include talks, classes, radio announcements, school presentations, safety classes, fire extinguisher classes, and fire drills.  It is with great pride that the Silver City Fire Department offers these types of programs to the public so one day down the road they may know what to do in case of a real emergency situation.

During the month of October, the department celebrates Fire Prevention Week.  Throughout the week we have an open house at both stations in which we educate children on the importance of fire prevention and provide them information and training on what to do in case of an emergency. Children are given a tour of the station, shown educational videos and given fun fire prevention materials that they can take home and share with their families.

For more information on public education or to schedule a safety class contact Deputy chief Marshall at (575)-956-1275 or Fire Inspector Cruzan at (575)-956-1274.
