Town Council Legal & Public Notices
This section provides an archive and record of recent and past Legal Notices for the Town Council, including notices for meetings and events that have already taken place:

Open Meetings Act Compliance
Public access to the proceedings and decision-making processes of governmental boards, agencies and commissions is an essential element of a properly functioning democracy. We believe strongly in open government. Meetings held by public officials to discuss public business, particularly when conducted with the public taxpayers’ money, are the taxpayers’ business. The Open Meetings Act is one of New Mexico’s 'good government' laws, and it deserves the full support of all New Mexicans.

Town seeks input on Welcome signs
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS EXTENDED TO AUGUST 31

The Mayor and Town Council has proposed installing “Welcome” signs on three highways leading into Silver City. This is a common feature found around the country and missing in Silver City.

The Mayor and Town Council would like to solicit designs from the community. Some examples have been provided on the Town website and previously discussed at Council meetings.

Some guidance to consider:
  • A highway sign must be read in seconds as the traffic is moving at highway speeds (55 mph)
  • We would like to see signs that represent Silver City’s rich history, culture and friendly people
  • Monument style is more desirable than a billboard
  • May have lighting for night time
  • Compatible with native landscapes and plantings
  • Wording such as “Welcome to Silver City”, “Welcome to Historic Silver City”, supports the goal of the project

You may submit your design ideas to the Town Community Development Department in a common digital format or hand drawn on paper. The Town Community Development Department is located at The Town Hall Annex at 1203 N. Hudson. Digital submissions may be submitted via email to jembick@silvercitymail.com, or delivered on one of the many options for storing media. You will not receive any media storage devices back. Please make sure to include your name and contact information so the Mayor and Town Council may recognize your contribution. All designs submitted to the Town will become the property of the Town along with all rights associated with ownership of the design.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS AUGUST 31
