On August 20th at 11am, celebrated author of “A Taco Testimony: Meditations on Family, Food and Culture” and many other works and las cruces native Denise Chávez will be our featured presenter as we talk about food as an expression of culture in “A Taste of Home” Denise will share recipes and excerpts from “Taco Testimony” and its upcoming sequel “¡Delfina, Más Tacos!” Local restaurateurs will join the audience in sharing a taste or two of what food means to them and their cultures as the audience does the same. Denise Chávez is a Performance writer, novelist, playwright, teacher and cultural activist based in Las Cruces, New Mexico. A true child of La Frontera, Chávez’s books include The King and Queen of Comezón, A Taco Testimony: Meditations on Family, Food and Culture, Loving Pedro Infante, Face of An Angel, and The Last of the Menu Girls. An actor, Chávez has performed her one-woman shows, Novena Narrativas and El Muro/The Wall: A Chorus of Immigrant Women's Voices throughout the U.S.
